The Effect of Broncho Vaxom on the Patients with Chronic Inflammatory Pulmonary Diseases

Abstract
The clinical effects of Broncho Vaxom on the patients with chronic inflammatory pulmonary diseases such as chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, and destroyed lung were studied. Also the effect of Broncho Vaxom on the T-lymphocyte subpopulation was studied and the following results were obtained.
1. In patients treated with Broncho Vaxom, clinical symptoms such as cough and purulent sputum were significantly improved and the duration of antibiotics usage was also significantly reduced compared with control group. These effects lasted for at least one month after Broncho Vaxom was discontinued.
2. 80% of patients treated with Broncho Vaxom showed improvement in the degree of frequency and severity of respiratory infection, while 55% of control group showed improvement.
3. The attending physician¢¥s subjective evaluation of Broncho Vaxom recorded as very good or good therapeutic response in 77% of patients, and self-evaluation of the treatment by patients gave similar results.
4. Broncho Vaxom was well tolerated in all cases and any significant side effect was not noted.
5. Broncho Vaxom increased the subpopulation of peripheral blood T3 and T4 cells but not in the magnitude of statistical significance. There was no difference in T8 subpopulation. After treatment with Broncho Vaxom T4 /T8 ratio was significantly increased compared with pretreatment period (P<0.03).
